There are four types of blepharoplasty surgery: upper blepharoplasty (performed along crease line of upper eyelid), lower blepharoplasty (performed along the crease line of the lower eyelash line), and upper and lower blepharoplasty (both these procedures performed together). Traditional blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat, but does not generally improve lines and wrinkles; laser therapy may be used to rectify this if necessary.
Eyelift or blepharoplasty surgery removes excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids. It gives the patient a more refreshed, rested, and youthful look.
Who benefits from the eyelift procedure?
Eyelid reshaping is often requested even by those in their twenties. Many of these people have the outer corner of the eye situated at a level below that of the inner corner. Some describe this as a puppy dog look. They often request an almond shaped eye (Tiger Woods, Beyonce). Others (often of Asian heritage) request widening of the eye.
In the mid to late thirties the skin on the eyelids relaxes and becomes thinner. The cheek and the eyebrow also descend , giving a crowded look to the eyes. As they descend they tend to pull the outer corner of the eye down.
The eye fat removal is done through a tiny incision inside the eyelid. A special protective shield is in place over the eyeball throughout the surgery. Most of the surgery is done on the outside of the eye.
Recovery
The area around your eyes will be bruised for about 10 days. Many people go out in public with large sunglasses. Sometimes there is residual swelling for longer. This can often be helped with massage.
